Rest & Be Thankful took inspiration for their name from an inscription on a stone on top of Glen Croe in 1753, written by soldiers who were thankful to have made the long and steep ascent and had a place to rest. The company is the brainchild of Eamonn Jones and Aidan Smith, who between them run Fox Fitzgerald Whisky Trading Company. They developed a close relationship with ex-Bruichladdich directors & shareholders, Eamonn & Aidan proposed bottling their private casks of Bruichladdich, Octomore and Port Charlotte under the “Rest & Be Thankful name. Since then, the Rest & Be Thankful offering has evolved, and have included single casks from Scotland’s great distilleries such as Macallan, Highland Park, Springbank, Bunnahabhain and many more thus providing enthusiasts and malt lovers a spectrum of true expressions from the cask.
The Macduff Distillery was built in 1962 and is sometimes more well known as the Glen Deveron Distillery. it is situated in the Highland whisky region of Scotland and is owned by Bacardi. The distillery boasts 5 stills and produces around 2,400,000 litres of spirit every year which is mostly used for blended whisky. Independent bottlings from this distillery are right on the money.
This single cask whisky was distilled in 2007 at the Macduff Distillery and it was placed in an ex bourbon cask and left to mature for 12 years. In February 2020 it was bottled at 58.1% abv by the Rest & Be Thankful Whisky Co. Only 283 bottles were produced for worldwide distribution.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Freshly baked wholemeal bread, garden herbs, vanilla and honey sweetness.
Palate: Vanilla biscuits, honeycomb, pickled ginger and porridge oats.
Finish: Tropical fruits of melon and mango with citrus.
