Signatory Vintage are an independent bottler founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington. The name ‘Signatory’ was derived from the initial intention to find a person of suitable standing to sign the labels for bottles drawn from a single cask. The first cask bottled was a 1968 Glenlivet which quickly sold through long before any suitable signee could be found.Signatory currently bottle at three strengths: 43%, 46% Unchillfiltered (UCF) and Cask Strength.To add proof of authenticity to their cask strength bottlings, Signatory always include the cask numbers, date of distillation, date of bottling and number of bottles produced.Signatory Vintage’s aim is to offer as wide a range of whiskies as possible, some of which are not even bottled by the proprietary distillery. This allows malt enthusiast to sample the huge variety of subtle differences which occur between casks.
The Isle of Jura Distillery is a single malt whisky distillery located on the island of Jura in the Inner Hebrides off the West Coast of Scotland, about a stones through away from Islay. The distillery is owned by Glasgow based company named Whyte and Mackay who are famous for the blended whisky of the same name.Founded in 1810 by the Laird of Jura, Archibald Campbell it was operational till 1884 when it fell into disrepair. The distillery was dismantled and it wasn’t till the 1950’s the distillery was revived by Robin Fletcher and Tony Riley-Smith who were keen to revive the local economy. Installation of taller stills in 1963 allowed the distillery to create a mix of wonderful malt whiskies.
This single malt whisky was distilled in 1992 at the Jura distillery before being placed in single bourbon barrel and left to mature for 27 years. In 2020 it was bottled at 51.4% abv as part of the Signatory Vintage Cask Strength Collection. Only 82 bottles worldwide were produced of this fine liquid for us all to enjoy.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Softly burnt toffee drizzled over roasting chestnuts. Orchard fruits of apples and pears.
Palate: Rich and chewy with orchard fruits and honey sweetness. Turkish delight and bold oak flavours.
Finish: Mandarin oil, boiled sweets and sandalwood.
